ABOUT
MEET
CHRISTINE LEYVA, Ph.D.
I became a psychologist because I want to help people live their best lives, and I believe everyone can uncover great strength within themselves when they have the right tools and support. My work centers on helping adults navigate anxiety, OCD, and the challenges that often come along with them, like struggles with self-esteem, relationships, and health.
Experience That Shapes My Approach
I have trained and served at both the Austin and San Antonio Veterans Health Administrations, supporting veterans with trauma, anxiety, and chronic health concerns. I have also worked in rehabilitation hospitals around Austin, helping patients manage the emotional side of medical conditions. These experiences taught me the importance of treating not just symptoms, but the whole person.
Areas of Focus
In my practice today, I treat the full spectrum of anxiety disorders, including:
-
OCD
-
Panic disorder
-
Health anxiety
-
Social anxiety
-
Phobias
-
Trichotillomania
-
Generalized anxiety disorder
Because my doctoral research at The University of Texas explored the role of self-esteem in unhealthy relationships, I also have a special interest in helping clients build confidence and navigate relationship-related anxiety.
Specialized Training in Health & Pain
During my postdoctoral fellowship, I specialized in primary care and behavioral health psychology. That training gave me extensive experience treating chronic pain and health-related anxiety, and it continues to influence my work today. I understand how deeply pain and health worries can affect daily life, and I’m passionate about helping clients regain a sense of control and hope.
My Approach to Therapy
Above all, I believe therapy works best as a partnership. My role is to support, challenge when needed, and share evidence-based strategies so you feel equipped to face life’s obstacles. My style is honest and direct. Clients tell me they appreciate the compassion, practicality, and often times humor that I bring to our work together.
Does this sound like a fit?
If you’re struggling with anxiety, OCD, or health-related concerns, you don’t have to face it alone. I’d be honored to walk alongside you and help you find the tools, confidence, and relief you’ve been looking for.
